Rocky Balboa is one of the most recognisable names in cinema. It started as a Sylvester Stallone passion project and not even he knew of the effect it would have on pop culture for years to come. The first Rocky won the Best Picture Oscar in 1976 against some stiff…

The Thing was released in 1982 and was a flop. The public didn’t resonate with the dark alien life form, especially when they were loving the family friendly ET The Extra Terrestrial. Although it bombed at the cinema it found it’s home on the shelves of the local video stores…
There is almost no words that can describe the masterpiece that is JAWS. Upon its release it blew the world away and made millions of people afraid of the water overnight. Steven Spielberg in only his second feature film created a film that some directors work their whole career to…
Decades in the making, Mad Max Fury Road is a cinematic masterpiece. Simplistic in its story but a labour of love in production, Max Max Fury Road was the best movie of 2015 and should have won the Best Picture Oscar. The fourth instalment in the Mad Max Franchise this…
Born to a Watch took 35 years in the making but it was worth it. Three old friends, one an ex video shop owner, one an industry insider and one a black belt in 80s Kung fu movies chat about the movies that changed their life, and the world. There…
Raiders of the Lost Ark could be the greatest action adventure movie ever made. Directed my Steven Spielberg “ Raiders” is a nod to the old serials that he used to watch as a child. A fast paced script with a quality cast, this is movie making at its finest.…
The 80s was certainly a great decade for TV series with some of my fondest memories being with these shows. It was hard to turn the TV on and not find one of them playing. Without some of these TV Series I don’t think we would have some of the…
Alfred Hitchcock had already left his mark on cinema before he released Psycho in 1960. What happened after he unleashed this movie on the public will go down in history. People were essentially locked in the theatre for the entirety of the film so they couldn’t spoil the movie. Psycho…
The Batman exploded onto screens in 2022 and post the pandemic the public were ready for a blockbuster. Director Matt Reeves delivered a completely different take to what we have seen in the past. A dark, gritty and violent Batman that calls himself Vengeance. Robert Pattinson kills it as The…
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is arguably the greatest trilogy ever creature. Peter Jackson’s labour of love was filmed back to back and each movie blew the world away. A huge ensemble cast assembled in New Zealand to embark on a creative journey that hasn’t been matched since. Each…
Jurassic Park is a Blockbuster done right. Steven Spielberg is a master movie maker and with the perfect mix of practical and CGI effects he produced a peerless piece of cinema. No one will ever forget seeing a dinosaur on the big screen for the first time, it quite literally…
Saving Private Ryan took the war movie to a whole new level in 1998. Steven Spielberg managed to evoke the realism of the D Day Beach landing so well that veterans were brought to tears upon watching the movie. A cast that is firing on all cylinders, led by Hollywood…
Without a doubt one of the greatest feats in cinema history. The Infinity Saga which culminated in Avengers End Game was a cinema experience for the ages. How they managed to tie all the threads together over 10 years is incredible. If you were in a packed cinema for this…
The world changed in 1977 and definitely for the better. Their were lines around the block when STAR WARS was released and George Lucas’s passion project became a cultural phenomenon. Regarded by many as the greatest trilogy ever produced STAR WARS is as popular now as it was when it…
The Dark Knight blew everyone away upon its release. It managed to bridge the gap between a super hero movie and the mainstream. Feeling more like a crime drama than the usual super hero fare, The Dark Knight rewrote the book for movies to come. Incredible performances by Heath Ledger…
Quentin Tarantino announced himself to the world with the magnificent Reservoir Dogs but it was his follow up, Pulp Fiction that could be his best work. Winning the converted Palm D’Or award at Canne, Pulp Fiction was a breathe of fresh air. The non linear storyline, the quick witted script…
The Godfather is atop many lists of the greatest movies of all time and it’s hard to argue. What Francis Ford Coppola was able to create has not been replicated since. An all star cast with Marlon Brando in the lead role as Don Corleone is amazing. Al Pacino, Robert…
Aliens (1986) is in the discussion as one of those sequels that could be better than the original. A completely different movie to Alien what James Cameron did was a full blown action extravaganza that ups the ante in every area. One of my favourite movies of all time didn’t…
JAWS is arguably the greatest movies ever made and changed the way movies were made forever. Without JAWS we would have the summer blockbuster and has confirmed that practical effects will always trump CGI. The movie was a disaster to make, ran over budget and time, to the point that…
Is Predator the perfect action film? It’s hard to argue that it isn’t. Arnold Schwarzenegger owned cinema for nearly 20 years thanks to blockbusters like Predator (1987). This movie has everything, muscles, jungle, guns, aliens, it has something for everyone and I can still remember the first time that I…
If Rocky Balboa isn’t one of the most recognisable names in all of cinema then it’s definitely the second most. 1976 and a down on his luck actor gives up everything to follow a dream and in doing so creates one of the great characters ever committed to a movie…
One must wonder whether the Horror movie as we know it today would even exist without the masterpiece that is The Exorcist. Adapted from the best selling novel, William Freidkin through caution to the wind and created a movie that took the public by storm. Incredible performances from the whole…
Two very different movies but steeped in 80s greatness. The movie that essentially announced Eddie Murphy to the world as a legit superstar, Beverly Hills Cop arguably created the action/comedy movie. An electric script that doesn’t let up from start to finish and a cast that is firing on all…
