Two very different movies but steeped in 80s greatness. The movie that essentially announced Eddie Murphy to the world as a legit superstar, Beverly Hills Cop arguably created the action/comedy movie. An electric script that doesn’t let up from start to finish and a cast that is firing on all cylinders, Beverly Hills Cop was an instant classic.
John Carpenter is one of those rare film makers that doesn’t seem to care about the audience reaction. It’s either that or had complete faith that his movies will find their audience. Again, Big Trouble in Little China didn’t fair too well at the cinema but on the back shelves of video shops it soon made a name for itself. This is just an absolute romp that I love as much today as when I found it in the video shop decades ago. Kurt Russell is unstoppable as Jack Burton, his one liners or seriously quotable still in my everyday life.
